Legislation and Regulations
William Churchills explain these meanings
Legislation and Regulations
In this section, we feel the need to explain the words “legislation” and “regulations” as both are important within the clearance process. The areas in which the clearance process work within are well governed to protect different parts of the general public.
LICENSING & REGISTRATION FOR WASTE CARRIERS
The government require companies who handle waste to be licensed. This license must reveal the type of waste which is being handled and carried. Without the license and relevant documentation, the waste management centres are unable to accept waste. The necessity of the licence ensures that waste is categorised and appropriately disposed. If you require further information, please see the informative DEFRA Website, or the SEPA website in Scotland.
FOAM FURNITURE REGULATIONS
You have heard the reports and seen advertisements of horrific fires which are started by a cigarette falling down the back of an armchair or sofa. It is accidents like these which the Furniture and Furnishings Regulations have been put in place to prevent.
The Furniture and Furnishings Regulations Guide can be viewed here.
These regulations don't just cover us as a clearance company, but cover charity shops and similar as well, which is why these shops are unable to take any items which do not have appropriate fixed permanent compliance labels.REGULATIONS FOR ELECTRICAL SAFETY
To ensure all electrical items to be sold are safe, the regulations state that a certificate of compliance is required for all second hand electrical items sold. Therefore all electricals are to be tested by a qualified electrician prior to being made available for sale. Again, The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994 can be viewed hear.
